Old, yet new

2018S/Sシーズンで私たちは新しい挑戦をしました。

私たちはこれまで数多くのBOROを使って洋服をつくってきましたが、

皆さんご存知の通りBOROはとて貴重で高価なものなのでKUONのボロジャケットはとても高価でした。

そこでどうすればもっと多くの方に楽しんでいただけるかを試行錯誤してきました。

洋服をつくる際には必ず「端切れ」が出ます。

普通は捨ててしまうのですが私たちは端切れとなったBOROを捨てずにストックしてきました。

このジャケットは端切れとなったBOROを刺し子でパッチワークして再利用してつくりました。

もちろんパッチワークの刺し子をするのは大槌町のお母さんたちです。

私たちは東日本大震災で被災した地域のお母さんたちが自立のためにはじめた刺し子の活動に共感し、BOROの修理は彼女たちにお願いしています。

震災から7年経ち素人だった彼女たちも立派な刺し子職人になりました。

私たちはファッションやファッションビジネスの真の意味でのサステイナブル、社会貢献とは何かを日々考えています。

このジャケットは自らアップサイクルをしたことになるのではないでしょうか。

ゴミは出さずに最高の洋服を仕立てることはとてもエキサイティングです。

In our 2018S/S collection, we did a new challenge.

We have made several kinds of BORO pieces, but as you already know, the BORO fabrics are quite expensive and consequently the price would end up quite high.

We were always thinking how more customers could enjoy our BORO pieces.

In the clothe making process, there is one thing that we cannot avoid : producing remnants.

Usually those remnants are thrown away, however, we have been stocking BORO remnants.

This jacket is made from those patched BORO remnants. Of course, the patchwork is done by mothers in Otsuchi town.

About 7 years ago, they started Sashiko project to recover from the Great East Japan Earthquake and we were very impressed by their will and work, and we have been working together since then.

They have grown up to be a professional Sashiko artisan now.

We never spent a day without thinking about what sustainability and social contribution really means in the fashion business.

And we believe that this jacket defines KUON's own way of sustainability.

It’s very exciting to produce the best piece of clothe without making any waste.

Old, yet new.
